Ann Arbor Concert Band: "Women in Winds—Shattering Glass!"

Showings

Our 45th anniversary season continues as Artistic Director and Conductor David Leach, presents “Women in Winds – Shattering Glass!”, a celebration of the musical genius, artistry, imagination and contributions of women composers to Concert Band / Wind Ensemble repertoire. Musical selections include “Early Light” by Carolyn Bremer, Erika Svanoe’s “Steampunk Suite”, “Tatarian Dances” by Elena Roussanova Lucas and Roshanne Etezady’s “Anahita”. We are honored to have guest conductors Dr. Pam Klena, Dr. Mary Land, E. Benton Lilliefors and Dr. Courtney Snyder. To honor Ann Arbor’s Bicentennial celebration, we recognize Ann Arbor as a hotbed of suffrage activism, leading to Michigan women's right to vote in 1918 before it was nationally enacted by performing "Remembering the Remarkables" by Grace Baugher. To conclude we salute the US Women Marines Reserve Band (est. 1943) with “March of the Women Marines” whose first conductor was Ann Arbor’s Charlotte Owen, who was appointed director of the Ann Arbor Civic Band in 1986.
