The Ann Arbor Concert Band continues its 44th concert season in wonderful fashion as David Leach, our newly appointed Artistic Director and Conductor steps to the podium to present “Smitten with the Mitten” celebrating Michigan Composers and Arrangers. The concert features Anthony Iannaccone’s “After a Gentle Rain”, the outer worldly “Vulcan” by Michael Daugherty, “The Heart of the Morn” by H. Owen Reed with guest soloist Alice Tillman, “Breakneck” by Chris Evans Hass, “A Song for Charlotte” by E. Benton Lilliefors (Current Pioneer HS Asst. Dir. Of Bands), “Persistence of Hope” by Scott Boerma, David Biedenbender ‘s “Melodious Thunk”, “Linden Lea” by Ralph Vaughn Williams (arr. John W. Stout), James M. Stephenson’s “Luther in Canon” (commissioned by Concordia College and Pioneer HS), “Contre Qui, Rose” by Morten Lauridsen (arr. H. Robert Reynolds) and Jerry Bilik’s iconic “Victor’s Valiant”. Plus we welcome guest conductors Scott Boerma (Director of Bands, Western Michigan University), Robert Ash (Director of Bands, Ann Arbor Huron HS), E. Benton Lilliefors (Assistant Director of Bands, Ann Arbor Pioneer HS) and Michael Haithcock (Director of Bands, University of Michigan – SMTD).
